The Light I’m Sending You
1. Sun Song – written by Melissa G. Shepherd
2. Astronaut Ice Cream – written by Graham Shepherd
This EP is in memory of Nathan Shepherd.
*a note from Melissa…
My husband Nathan was my biggest fan. He was so supportive of my music-making that he gave me a new instrument for Christmas every year. I have quite the odd collection now, which includes an autoharp, a mandolin, a banjo, an ocarina, etc.
Nathan very much wanted Restless Townies to record a song at Sun Studios the next time we went to Memphis. At the time he said it, he was going through cancer treatment. I told him as soon as he was stable, we’d go to Memphis and I’d make it happen. I started working on a song for Nathan.
Cancer treatment wasn’t successful… My husband passed away in October. And in lieu of getting a new instrument for Christmas, I flew to Memphis and recorded that song at Sun for Nathan.
My 5-year-old son Graham wanted to record a song, too. He wrote the lyrics for Astronaut Ice Cream and asked me to help with the melody. He then told me I’m not allowed to sing because it’s for kids only. So if you’re not a kid, you are not allowed to sing along.
